Description

Several years ago I shot the Rosette Nebula www.flickr.com/photos/terryhancock/5261425439/in/set-7215... using a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR following repair by Canon who had mistakenly removed the Baader UV/IR Block (which increases the sensitivity to hydrogen Alpha) and replaced with the stock filter. HII regions within the nebula are so powerful that they tend to dominate most Wideband color astro images with a resulting RED nebula, by not having this filter installed at the time of shooting the resulting image showed the blue emission nebula (caused by the young stars exciting the atoms within the nebula).

I liked the look it created which was purely by accident and I wanted to try to replicate this look using my new data. This was achieved in my color image by "channel swapping" replacing the blue channel with OIII data and combining OIII with the green channel at 50% opacity and adding H-Alpha to the red channel.
